Every time you go to the pound you should realize it may be better to take home a dog you think you will like than to raise it from a puppy. Others like having the puppies and it is of advantage to raise them because you can control him and will know how he grew up.

The next time you will feel you did something right for your dog is when you get the insurance for him. If you get liability insurance for your dog this is for the other party incase your dog ever bit anyone. Almost every dog that was bread to guard or to be guard dogs should have liability insurance just in case they do bite.

If you have pet insurance you might already know that some companies just won't cover those certain breeds because they are injury prone or are common to sickness. Some breeds have genetic issues that the insurance companies know will just be a problem and cost more to the insurance company.

Some owners may have trouble taking well care of the cocker spaniels kidneys as a puppy until they pass the age of two due to a condition known as Familial Nephropathy which can be fatal. If you have one of these types of dogs than if you don't know they will develop a genetic disorder known to shut their kidneys down from ages 6months to 2 years old so be sure to take care of your puppy. This problem is normally always fatal because there are virtually no signs of it coming to the dog and they just can't help it. Obviously most insurance companies also don't like to cover that sort of thing either

A lot of other dogs have hip problems like golden retrievers, pit bulls, and many other dogs. Hip dysplasia is a genetic problem that affects the dog in its hips. These dogs probably all walk bowlegged and at older ages will have hip problems if not taken care of properly. A lot of pet heath insurance companies will not give you a policy until you have tests done to see if you're dog is problem free of these hip disorders.

Bulldogs are the type that are prone to all kinds of problems heat strokes, breathing problems and sleeping problems are all issues that a bulldog might have. Great Danes have a long rap sheet about hip problems and other problems as well. So before you go and get any type of dog remember to try and get pet insurance because if you don't it might be a problem to your family when you can not pay the vet bills every time you go to the vet even if it is just a check up.

Dog Ticks - Be Watchful Of Them
By Steve Searls

We all know that the ticks are responsible for the spread of several diseases. In recent times, the experts have been telling us that the number of ticks has been on rise due to several reasons and hence there is an increasing chance of your dog being infected.

The main reason behind this sudden growth in ticks is the urbanization of the forests. Warming climate is also attributed to the rise of ticks. Years ago, the diseases used to spread mainly in the summer and were therefore seasonal. However, due to warming, these ticks seem to breed all throughout the year and have become a menace to our dear pets. More and more people now go for outings with their dogs which expose them to the ticks, leading to further infestation.

Various kinds of diseases are spread due to ticks. Lyme's disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Canine Ehrliciosis are among the most common ones.

Ticks lay eggs, larvae are hatched from these eggs and they immediately start seeking hosts. Once they feed on the host, they fall off and start living on the forest floors, feeding on decaying material until they develop into nymphs. The nymphs will again start searching for blood meal. If they can't find one, they perish. However, if they happen to find their blood meal, it will eventually fall off the host and live in the soil again further mutating into an adult.

If left attached to an animal, adult ticks can become quite large. I have personally seen them as large as a nickel. Now that's disgusting.

Adult ticks prefer larger animals like deer. In fact, deer are one of the main causes of the thriving tick population. If there were no deer, we wouldn't have such a big problem with ticks. Deer were close to extinction in the last century, but the restrictions placed on their hunting has now increased their number, and as their numbers increase, the ticks are thriving as well!

Due to the growing problem of ticks, the number of diseases is on the rise, affecting more and more pets. Your veterinarian can recommend various ways of protecting your dogs from ticks and fleas. Even simple preventive methods are better than none to keep your pet safe from the ticks.

These parasites can be very irritating for our beloved pets, especially if the dog is allergic to their bites. So, it is very important for you to ensure that your dog is free from ticks.

How To Find And Choose The Right Hypoallergenic Dog For You
By Gregg Hall

If you are looking to get a dog that is less likely to cause allergies look for the hypoallergenic dogs. These dogs since they tend to be smaller, will need more attention then other dogs. These dogs won't cause you to have allergies as bad as the other dogs you may have because they do onot shed and don't have undercoats. These dogs are dogs are very well liked by those that commonly suffer from allergies and are hypoallergenic: Irish Water Spaniel, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and Bedlington Terrier.

If you are one of those looking for a larger breed of hypoallergenic dogs the water spaniel will do. This breed has short hair and doesn't shed hair so they should be ok. If you were to get one of these dogs you would have to keep up with its coat and brush it every once and a while.

There are four main types of Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, the Traditional Irish, Heavy Irish, English, and American. The difference in each of these dogs is their sizes range. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has a short coat that does not shed much during the day. These dogs as well as any other dogs will need to be brushed to prevent rashes and such. This breed is a very good dog and they will be nice to anyone. They love to run outside and be around people inside the house as well. These dogs are not the best if you live in a condo or apartment, so you may need to move because they will love it if you get a house with a big backyard. This is the breed of dog if you are looking at these types of dogs.

For a smaller breed you may want to consider the Bedlington Terriers which are more diminutive than the Irish Water Spaniel and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier; they have shorter coats so they will need a good brushing every week to maintain a healthy coat. To insure a healthy coat you will need to either be able to groom your dog or take them and have them groomed.

These types are not the only hypoallergenic breeds that you can choose from there are many other breeds that will not aggravate your allergies at all. If you live in a small condo than you might just be considering to get a smaller dog. On the other hand if you are looking to buy a home then you can get one of these larger breeds of dogs. These dogs will need to be brushed to maintain their healthy coat because unlike other dogs they don't shed their coats. So if you get one be sure to take good care of it and feed it the right mixture of foods and be sure to exercise them too.
